NEW AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES ADDED FOR GRADES 5-9!
Rippowam Cisqua School offers two after school programs for students:

  • CAT: CAT is after school childcare for students in Junior PreKindergarten - Grade 4. CAT provides a safe, relaxed environment where students make friends of different ages and participate in engaging and unique activities. CAT is available Monday through Thursday until 5:30 p.m. and Fridays until 5:00 p.m.

  • After School Classes: After school classes are offered to students in Junior PreKindergarten - Grade 9. After school classes take place at various times and can be paired with CAT or other classes to suit your family’s schedule.

Registration for both programs typically takes place in July/August and November so that parents can tailor their children’s participation. Additional classes may be added throughout the year.

  • Art Kids - NEW CLASS

    Kindergarten-Grade 2

    Explore, discover, and create in Art Kids! Does your child love arts and crafts? Then they must be an Art Kid! Students will have the opportunity to explore materials and media such as drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, and photography while learning new skills and techniques. The student is the artist and the classroom is the artist’s studio.

  • Art Studio - NEW CLASS

    Grades 2-4

    Explore, discover, and create in Choice-Based Art Studio. Students will explore a variety of materials and a full range of 2-D and 3-D media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, photography, and computer art. We will discuss what artists do, the Studio Habits of Mind, and where/how artists get their ideas and inspiration.

    Students will learn new skills and techniques, choose themes/subjects as well as the media and materials they want to use to create their ideas. Students will explore new ways of thinking by analyzing artwork, forming critical opinions, and explaining their ideas. Students discover how to think like an artist, observe closely, solve problems, persist through challenges, and reflect on their creative process. Student artists will learn to describe their choices, their intentions, and reflect upon the process of their art making. The student is the artist and the classroom is the artist's studio.

  • Chess

    Kindergarten-Grade 4

    Learn how to play chess from Program Director Damian Donovan. Mr. Donovan brings over 20 years of chess teaching experience to RCS.
     
    BEGINNERS CHESS (K-GRADE 1)
    Students learn the moves and rules of chess including opening fundamentals, beginner tactics, and simple checkmates. Players can also participate in beginner level chess tournaments.

    INTERMEDIATE CHESS (GRADES 2-4)
    Students will enjoy the classic games of Morphy, Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca, and Alekhine; the period of Soviet domination to Fischer and the champions of today.  Players will improve their problem-solving skills, record their games, play on the clock, and when ready, are encouraged to participate in chess tournaments.

  • Classic Toys and Games - NEW CLASS

    Grades 2-4

    Calling all artists, engineers and those who love toys! Have you ever wondered what your grandparents or parents played with when they were kids? In this class, you will construct several different toys and games from yesteryear. Build a kaleidoscope, construct and race a rubber band car, or design a periscope. Take them home to share with the family and perhaps take a trip down memory lane with your parents or grandparents! We look forward to building the memories with you.

  • Coding

    Grades 3 & 4

    Coding Club continues this spring with the addition of Ozobots, tiny smart robots that use sensors to see colors and sequences of colors in order to introduce basic programming concepts. Using these bots, students will think logically and sequentially to complete various puzzles. In addition, students will use a visual version of JavaScript called Blockly to write code to control the Ozobots. Finally, students will continue to work on their coding skills on Code.org and through the use of Scratch. New to coding? No problem! Much of the Coding Club curriculum is work at your own pace.

  • Cooking

    JPK-Grade 2

    See what’s cooking with Mrs. Giorgi! This is a highly interactive and hands-on class that delights the senses. For example, children crack eggs, sift and whisk flours, knead dough, smell a variety of scents, measure ingredients, and work the food processor.
    The children will grow food in the vegetable garden. They will taste what they prepare during class and bring a sample home to share. You will be impressed by how much they absorb from cooking and baking, and touched by how proud they are to share their cooking experiences.

    JUNIOR PREKINDERGARTEN
    Program includes lunch, story, quiet time, and the cooking class.

  • Fourth Grade Publishing

    Grade 4

    Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Students will become reporters, photographers, and designers for the new Lower Campus digital newspaper - The Hoot! Students will gather and share all the latest school news, report on special interest topics and research the latest trends. Be part of the publishing team. It’s a hoot!

  • TGA Premier Junior Golf - NEW CLASS

    Kindergarten-Grade 4

    TGA Premier Junior Golf is the only national at-school, after school junior golf enrichment program. TGA stands for teach, grow, and achieve. Locally, TGA has run junior golf programs since 2008, teaching the lifelong sport to 4,000 youth in Northern Westchester. The TGA curriculum utilizes drills and language that make it fun for students in Kindergarten-Grade 8 to learn golf. As students advance through the five-level program, they will learn the basics and fundamentals of the sport, all the while being prepared to play on the golf course.

  • Homework Club

    Grades 2-4

    What better way for your child to get their homework completed than by joining the Homework Club? After a quick snack for added brainpower, students will meet in a spacious and airy classroom where they can choose from several comfortable seating options. Whether they prefer to sit at a table, on comfy cushions, or spread out on a rug, the goal is for them to work on their assignments in a relaxed, quiet learning environment.

    An experienced head teacher will provide guidance and support, assist with organization, and help prioritize assignments. Once homework is completed, students will begin their nightly reading assignment so please make sure your child brings a book each time they attend. If all homework is completed, grade level literacy and math skills activities will be available. So don't delay, have your child join the Homework Club today!

    Jessica Knopke’s class for kindergarten and first grade  will provide movement through individual and group play using activities and games. Class activities will be guided by developmental milestones to enhance children’s gross and fine motor skills, as well as their social-emotional awareness.  Children will improve their awareness of how movement affects their bodies and minds and will learn strategies to self-regulate. Children will absolutely love playing on the equipment in the new Sensory Room!

  • LEGO Robotics

    Kindergarten-Grade 2

    Continuing our skill building and creativity from the fall, the LEGO Robotics club will include engineering, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. We will use LEGO WeDo kits to design, program, build, and test robots! A few robot projects will include animals eating, creatures walking, and trucks that can carry a heavy load. See how fun coding is and how far your imagination can go!

  • LEGO Robotics II

    Grades 3-4

    This LEGO Robotics club is specially designed for older students who want to have fun while being challenged. Every week students combine engineering, creativity, problem solving, and collaboration to design, build, code, and test many projects. A few activities include: finding how fast a LEGO car can go, testing the strength of structures after an earthquake, and creating a rover that can travel on Mars. The final section of the club will be spent designing and building unique creations.

  • LEGO STEAM - NEW CLASS

    Junior PreKindergarten - Senior PreKindergarten

    Preschoolers will explore STEAM projects using DUPLO bricks that are larger than standard LEGO bricks. The LEGO STEAM club introduces students to activities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Teams of students work to build an amusement park with rides, stands, animals, and other attractions. In the course of building the park, the children are introduced to the workings of gears and ramps, movement in the water, chain reactions, probability, performance, problem-solving and collaboration, among other lessons.

  • RCS Runners

    Grades 3 & 4

    RCS Runners is offered in affiliation with Northern Westchester Hospital Get Physical! Running Club program.

    RCS Runners is an excellent opportunity for children to meet new friends, recognize the importance of fitness, and most importantly, enjoy running. Each week, Ms. Coyle will lead children on group runs around the Lower Campus fields. There will be provisions for indoor running during inclement weather.

  • TGA - Premier Youth Tennis - NEW CLASS

    Senior PreKindergarten-Grade 4

    TGA - Premier Youth Tennis of Northern Westchester is a national partner of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). TGA’s station-based curriculum results in classes that are full of high energy, physical fitness, character development themes, and educational components. The TGA staff is handpicked to provide the highest level of instruction while maintaining a fun and engaging environment. All equipment is provided so sign up so your child has the unique opportunity to learn a lifelong, life-changing sport.

  • Violin

    Grades 1-4

    This class is closed to new students. All students currently enrolled must register for the winter/spring term.

    Come learn how to play beautiful music! Ms. Zades will teach children the best of the Suzuki method with traditional western violin techniques. Legendary master Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s method enables rapid development for children and flexible participation for the parents. At the end of the session, students will be able to showcase their talents to the whole school.

    Jessica is passionate about bringing strategies to promote emotional and physical well-being into the lives of children, and giving them tools that they can use throughout their lives to handle big emotions and find inner peace.     “Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow…”

    Please join the RCS Garden Club's spring session. Together we will plant a salad garden, pumpkin patch, and sunflower house. We will also fly kites, make bouquets, and dig for worms. In addition, the RCS garden club will take their first field trip to tour a local garden!

  • LEGO Robotics

    Grades 4-8

    Join us for another great term of Friday Ripp Robotics with Miles Cameron and Barbara DiVenuto where you will explore, challenge, and innovate. 

    NEW - This spring the Upper Campus LEGO Robotics team would like to extend a special invitation to any fourth grade students who might be interested in joining their Friday after school Robotics class. The LEGO Robotics team is a dedicated group of students who met throughout the fall and winter to prepare for the FIRST® LEGO® League competition, which occurred in January. With the 2019 competition now over, the team will spend the spring term further developing their coding and building skills. They will compete against each other in our second annual RCS LEGO Olympics. Students will be challenged to design and build a robot that can play soccer, shoot a free throw, wrestle, and race around a track.  
     
    Our team is excited to welcome and support new fourth grade partners. Mrs. DiVenuto and Mr. Cameron will work directly with any interested fourth graders to help them get up to speed building their robots and learning to program their own EV3 bricks. No previous coding skills are required.
