Arts@RCS

RCS casts students in a series of roles that challenge them at every grade level to step outside their comfort zone. We encourage students to become storytellers who can craft their own narratives through the visual and performing arts.

The arts are integrated into the academic curriculum, and so, every student becomes an artist, actor, and musician. Many also work behind the scenes. By providing each student with a platform to explore their creativity, children learn the benefit of trial and error, the art of critique, and learn to navigate the social dynamics associated with collaboration and teamwork. The result is improved academic performance and the development of lifelong critical thinking skills.

Designed to inspire and inform the creative process, the Visiting Artists Series invites contemporary artists into our classrooms and community to share their work, inspirations, and paths to success. In turn, students develop a healthy appreciation and understanding of diverse art and culture that sparks dialogue and informs the creative process.

Visiting artists work across disciplines and range from world-renowned speakers to highly-regarded local career professionals. Through readings, lectures, screenings, performances, workshops, critiques, and conversations, visiting artists serve as role models and mentors by working with students and showcasing the determination, grit, and discipline necessary to create art in any media.

From time to time, visiting artists are invited to showcase their work or share their stories with our broader community. Many of the visiting artists are RCS alum.
